Appeal to buy special helmet for four-month-old Fife boy

A fundraiser has been set up to purchase a helmet for a four-month-old Methil boy whose skull has not developed properly.

William Wishart has been diagnosed with Plagiocephaly, also known as ‘flat head’, and Torticollis, which is tightness in a child’s neck muscles.

His parents, Aimee Martin and Kristopher Wishart, have already raised £1325 towards their £2050 target.

The funds which will cover the cost of a Timband helmet, which will help mould his head into the right shape and give him extra support.

Plagiocephaly has already affected his forehead and right ear, which have been pushed forward, and his parents fear that it could lead to his facial features dropping and seizures should it be left untreated.

Aimee said they noticed there was something wrong when he was first born.

“He was all floppy until he was around two months old, and then we had a scan which confirmed it,” she added.

“He’ll put his head on the floor because of how heavy it is, and we also have to feed him on one side. It has started to affect his face.

“We have heard he can have surgery when he is five years old. We looked at the helmet – it stays on for 23 hours every day and helps remould the head back to how it should have been. We thought we should take the chance.”

Despite the conditions, Aimee described William as a “great bairn” who is “happy in himself”.
