Big turnout at drop-in session for first glimpse of how Kirkcaldy's £20million will be spent

Plans on how to spend £20million transforming Kirkcaldy town centre and waterfront have gone on show - and are attracting a lot of interest.

Fife Council is staging two drop-in sessions at the Old Kirk in Kirk Wynd, and the local authority has been delighted by the numbers pouring through the doors for a first glimpse at the blueprint. The second event runs from 5:30pm and 8:00pm today (Thursday) and is free to attend.

Council officers are there to gather more feedback and answer questions on the broad outline of the plan on where the UK Government’s Growth Mission Fund will be spent.

The final paper remains a work in progress, but several key actions are emerging. The priority projects identified by the council are the construction of a new ‘Adam Smith Growth Works’ – a landmark multi-purpose facility fostering enterprise, creativity, learning and community connection; and a re-modelled town centre which will see some buildings demolished to make way for new opportunities and greater connectivity with the waterfront.

Longer-term there are plans to create a linear Waterfront Park with artist;s impressions giving an idea of how it could look - and the role it could play in creating a very different town centre.

The drop-in sessions also feature drone footage of the demolition of Thistle Street car park which has now been razed, and a glimpse into the major work being done on the Esplanade car park before it can be taken down safely.
