A virtual programme of activities is taking place throughout this week for Burntisland Civic Week. The original events were cancelled in April due to Covid-19, but the committee organised some community events through its Facebook page at the last minute. The theme ‘Festival of the Sea’ saw children encouraged to create posters for their windows and dress up for what would have been parade day last Saturday, and some familiar characters got together for a walk along the High Street and to the beach.Citizen of the Year Caroline Campbell was unable to carry out the usual Civic Week duties, so the committee gifted her a bouquet and afternoon tea.Libby Donovan, committee chairman, said: “We couldn’t let Civic Week 2020 go by without putting on a few activities for the children. Spongebob plans to return on Saturday to visit some more streets in the town.”The fun is not over yet, as there’s still time to complete the treasure hunt – spot the mermaids and pirate pictures displayed around the town and to submit your entries for the sandcastle competition.Test your football skills by sending organisers your videos for the keepie uppie challenge, or why not make a tasty treat for the family and enter the bake-off.Of course there’s no Binn Race this year, but a virtual Binn race is taking place on Strava between June 20 and July 19, organised by the Beacon Runners.A virtual quiz, hosted by the Sands Hotel, takes place on Saturday with proceeds going to Burntisland Emergency Action Team and associated local causes. To find out more about any of the events and how to get involved visit www.facebook.com/BurntislandCivicWeek
