Caroline Campbell was one of a very strong field of nominees, who was chosen to receive the award by Burntisland Community Council for her activity within the local community, which is often behind the scenes.

Her work varies from fundraising for the Parish Church Guild to supporting weekly social events and day trips for residents of the Allan Court sheltered housing complex.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Caroline is also active in supporting and developing the Over 55 group at the Toll Community Centre.

Alex MacDonald, chairman of Burntisland Community Council, said: “She was described to us as being ‘a very kind and caring
person’ and that is clearly borne out by her very wide spectrum of activities.

“It’s all done without seeking or expecting any form of reward or recognition.

“So it’s particularly pleasing that her work has been noticed and appreciated by others.

“It’s now 41 years since the award was first presented and in that time we have
recognised many people who have made an outstanding contribution to the community.

“We had a record number of nominations this year, which made our task even harder.

“It’s a delight to know that there are so many local people whose community work is appreciated, but Caroline’s record over many years is clearly outstanding and her award is richly deserved.”

Caroline told the Press: “It’s a great honour to have been nominated and to receive the citizen of the year award.

“I would like to thank the people who nominated me.

“Through attending the many clubs in Burntisland I have met some lovely people and made lots of new friends.

“We have a lot of fun and plenty of tea and biscuits.”

She added: “I look forward to the year ahead carrying out my duties as citizen of the year.”
