‘Buy a Brick’ campaign to help transform derelict Fife flax mill

A campaign has been launched to ‘sell’ one hundred of the historic red bricks of the Silverburn Flax Mill by Christmas.

Award-winning mental health charity Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT) which runs Silverburn Park, plans to turn the former mill into a multi-million pound visitor centre and community hub.

The Buy a Brick Campaign aims to raise £1500 by Christmas by asking people to help pay for the re-pointing and renovation of 100 bricks, by ‘buying’ a brick for themselves or a loved one for Christmas.

The campaign launched last week and the mental health charity, which supports people back into work, has already raised hundreds of pounds. It has also smashed the £5000 mark on its overall fundraising crowdfunder.

“We’ve been blown away by the support of the community so far – as well as contributing to the crowdfunding campaign there have been lots of people saying ‘keep the change’ when using the Cottage Window café,” said Duncan Mitchell, FEAT CEO.

“All of those extra pennies will also go into the pot.

“The idea of buying a brick came about because so many people are facing an alternative Christmas and looking for quirky ideas for gifts this year.

“However, you can buy a brick anytime, it’s not just for Christmas.”
