During lockdown, Euan (11) and Reece Hutt (9), completed a six-week creative writing course hosted by children's author R.A. Powell, streamed live on Facebook.

They wrote a story titled George’s Quest and Rainbow Rhino to enter a competition the author ran during summer.

Since then, R.A. Powell and children from across Scotland, England, Wales, and Australia, have collated the stories into a book, Rainbows During Lockdown; a collection of 58 rainbow-inspired tales.

Craig Hutt, Euan and Recce’s dad said: “They learned how to compose a story, how to create characters and how to start and end it. At the end, there was a competition where the boys entered a 1000 word story.

"Originally there was never meant to be a book, but with the quality of all the entries R.A. Powell decided to create one.”

He added: “I’m very proud of them, and I can’t wait to see their stories in print, I’ll be buying a few copies and giving them to everyone as Christmas presents.”

Proceeds from the book will be donated to ICUsteps, the UK’s only intensive care patient support charity, and School-Home Support, a charity which helps families living in poverty to ensure their children are in school and ready to learn.

The book is due for release on Tuesday, and will be available online at Amazon and Waterstones.
