Scottish charity, Action on Hearing Loss Scotland is continuing to support older veterans with hearing loss and tinnitus in Fife throughout the ongoing coronavirus situation.

As the lockdown continues, the charity’s Hearing Forces service is currently unable to carry out a face-to-face service to assist veterans with hearing issues, but the team are continuing to work to ensure that older veterans get practical support and information relating to hearing loss.

Action on Hearing Loss Scotland is a charity which supports, informs and empowers people who are deaf, have hearing loss and tinnitus to live the life they choose by campaigning for equality and developing technology and treatments.

The Hearing Forces team are offering a postal hearing aid battery service for NHS hearing aid users, giving information on assistive equipment to assist in preventing loneliness and isolation, and liaising with NHS Audiology on behalf of service users to ensure that veterans from Fife are not left behind.

Derek Clark, Hearing Forces Project Officer said: “We want to make sure older veterans in Fife are not feeling isolated in what is a difficult time for everyone. Whilst it’s not currently possible to run our face-to-face service we want to make sure that veterans with hearing loss can still access support from us.

“We have been helping veterans with advice and support, including accessing local NHS audiology services for hearing aid repairs and sending out replacement hearing aid batteries by post.

“We recently assisted a veteran from Dunfermline following discharge from the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy via a care home. His hearing aids had been sent to the care home, so we liaised with NHS Fife Audiology so his hearing aids were redirected to his home within four hours.”

Mr Clark adds: “If any older veterans in Fife needs batteries for their NHS hearing aid or require information on hearing loss or tinnitus, please do get in touch.”
