Charity launches home safety advice in Kirkcaldy
A small, charity which works with older people and unpaid carers from the south Asian communities, is expanding its operations into Kirkcaldy.
Milan Senior Welfare Organisation (SWO) has secured funding from Electrical Safety First to deliver safety advice and support to residents in the Lang Toun and Dunfermline.
It recently visited Kirkcaldy Mosque to deliver its awareness course about electrical safety, to help people understand how to keep their homes safe and risk-free. The project focuses on practical guidance around safe appliance use, reducing fire risks, and preventing electrical accidents in the home.
Milan has extensive experience delivering similar projects successfully in Edinburgh, and a key part of the project is ensuring that awareness is delivered in community languages, making the information accessible, inclusive, and easy to understand for everyone.

As part of the initiative, the team has visited the mosque, and carried out home visits within the community where support is tailored to each household’s needs.
Where small electrical appliances have been deemed unsafe following checks by Milan’s trained advisor, faulty items have been replaced to reduce potential hazards.
Sophia Latif, manager and spokesperson for Milan, said: “Electrical safety awareness saves lives. We have seen the positive impact of this work in Edinburgh, and it has been a pleasure to expand into Fife. Delivering sessions in community languages ensures that families fully understand how to keep their homes safe. We are grateful to Electrical Safety First for their support and to Kirkcaldy Mosque for providing a space to connect with the community.”
