Children’s hospice charity appeals for support

A local Rotary club has donated £500 to a charity which runs hospices for children with life-shortening conditions, after a plea for support from the charity.

Children’s Hospice Association Scotland, better known as CHAS, which runs Rachel House in Kinross, asked for help from Rotary groups.

The organisation warned that it faces a “substantial loss of income” and that, to offer the services it is known for, it needs support.

An email stated: “As well as protecting our families, staff and volunteers we must also consider the financial implications of the outbreak and the potentially damaging and long-lasting impact it will inevitably have on CHAS and its future sustainability. This threat is already presenting itself as we face a substantial loss of income through mass cancellations of all of our public fundraising efforts across Scotland.

“To continue to provide the excellent level of care which CHAS is deeply committed to and, is proudly known for we have had no other option but to put a number of contingencies in place across the organisation including diverting vital resources within CHAS to critical areas as we simultaneously see a substantial loss of income.”

Responding to this, the Rotary Club of St Andrews gave £500 to the charity.

Club president John Christie said: “The Rotary Club of St Andrews is a longtime supporter of CHAS.

“At this exceptional time all charities are having great difficulty raising the funds they so vitally need. We are pleased to have been able to help and feel sure that others will also want to support CHAS’s very valuable work.”
