Co-op searching for hero in Fife town

As part of its drive to support the communities around its store in Cupar, the Co-op is searching for people to work with local good causes and vulnerable people.

The successful ‘Member Pioneer’ will receive full training and business support as they help groups and individuals during the coronavirus pandemic and beyond. The ‘pioneer’ will cover a wide area, with Bonnygate at its heart.

The new position forms part of a drive to recruit 1000 ‘pioneers’ across the country.

Existing ‘pioneers ‘are currently involved in a wide range of activities including co-ordinating food drives and offering personal support to those unable to leave their homes.

Leading the new nationwide recruitment drive, Russell Gill, head of co-operative and local engagement at Co-op, said: “We’re looking for people who have the passion to bring communities together effectively, believe in the power of co-operation, and who hold the wellbeing of their community at the forefront of their mind, to truly make a difference.

“This has never been more important than now.”

Earlier this year, the Co-op’s Community Wellbeing Index – which analyses data from postcodes across the country – identified that the area around Bonnygate performed well above the UK average for having committed residents, not afraid to come together for the benefit of their local community.

Russell continued: “The local area has so many strengths and we want to help communities be as resilient as possible, against the new challenges posed by COVID-19. The new Pioneer should really spearhead our efforts, support great causes and think up new ideas.”
