Over the last year or so, members and friends of Markinch and Thornton Parish Church have been knitting or crocheting poppies with a view to creating a piece of temporary art for the period around Remembrance Day.

The idea was the brainchild of Paul and Suzi Hamilton as part of their fundraising efforts for Poppyscotland.

Over 2500 poppies have been donated and the result of all the work can now be seen inside Markinch Church.

As there are no formal Remembrance gatherings, the church will be open this Sunday (November 8) from noon until 4.00pm. Visitors will be able to see the various displays of knitted poppies and can also spend a short time in individual contemplation.

There will be a one-way socially distanced route in place through the church and visitors must wear a face covering, all in line with government guidance.
