Cupar author launches children’s book inspired by lockdown

A Cupar man has released his debut children’s book after being inspired by lockdown.

This year’s lockdown provided a plethora of problems for many Fife residents with home-schooling, working from home, losing employment, and being stuck in limbo with a dubiety about what the future may hold.

Nigel Mclellan (40) from Cupar however, seized the opportunity during some down-time to write a children’s book, inspired by his own children and lockdown experiences.

Long days of restricted travel and activities, meant Nigel could draw on what his children, aged seven and nine liked to talk about or took interest in.

“As adults, we often lose our sense of imagination and magic that we once believed in, so what better source of inspiration and ideas than from the minds of children themselves,” he said.

“Taking the kids ideas and expanding them, opened magical doors all over the narrative of this book.

“To me, the simplest concepts, and storylines, typed out and read aloud, had my children hooked.

“I would also add however, that children are often the most honest and brutal critics, so I was under no illusion, when I got it wrong.

“I’m hoping I can continue to write books that will inspire children and their parents to read together and utilise the skill I am building on throughout this horrendous year for everyone.”

Nigel wanted to ensure that during economic crisis, employment uncertainty and poor morale in current society, that others know it is perfectly acceptable to find something you can do and push through with it.

“If you can dream it, you can indeed do it,” said Nigel, who encourages others to do the same.

Nigel’s book, ‘Milly and the Changeling King’ is available on Amazon, Kindle and paperback now.
