Cupar recycling centre has reopened.

As with the other Fife sites, a booking system is in place, which can be made at www.fife.gov.uk/recyclingcentres.

The recycling centre will initially be open two days per week, Thursday and Sunday.

Visits continue to be limited to one per week. Accepted materials include landfill waste, green garden waste, plastic and cans, paper and cardboard, wood and metal.

Councillor Margaret Kennedy visited the site before it reopened and was pleased to hear that the number of appointments available will be based on demand.

Cllr Kennedy also raised concerns from van owners regarding the fact that only cars are permitted. The operators advised that the issue is that vans can hold more waste and this presents huge challenges with the appointment times. If someone takes longer than the allocated time, it will be very difficult to keep things moving, therefore, van owners are encouraged to use the Ladybank Recycling Centre for now.

Commenting, Cllr Kennedy said: “It was very useful to meet Robin and Scott from Fife Resource Solutions, and to see for myself the measures that have been put in place to ensure the safe reopening of Cupar’s recycling site.

“I know that many local residents will be pleased to hear that they can access the site again. Indeed, given the fact that appointments will be based on demand, I would urge the public to use it. If we show that we want a recycling centre in Cupar, we’ll be in a far stronger position to retain it.”
