It certainly got locals talking in West Wemyss when Hitler was spotted at the harbour at the weekend, and a few snapped pictures of the wartime dictator on a speedboat.

The scene was part of the upcoming action horror film Dick Dynamite 1944, which will see a musclebound hero go up against the Nazis in a dark humour production by Kirkcaldy filmmaker Robbie Davidson.

Filming has been taking place all over Fife and across Scotland, and while lockdown restrictions may have made things more difficult, the movie is still very much underway.

Robbie said that the shoot attracted a few onlookers.

He said: “We needed a shot of Hitler on a boat, so we went to West Wemyss and we were able to get what we needed.

"A few folk saw us filming and were quite amused and were taking pictures and stuff.

"I was worried at first thinking people will be offended, but actually they were loving it and thought it was great fun.”

Robbie said that lockdown has presented its challenges, but production has continued under restrictions.

He added: "It’s all about keeping things safe.

"On Friday we were filming in the cockpit of a plane, we were taking temperatures and the characters had masks on anyway, so it worked out well.

"Obviously we’ve had a lot of shoots cancelled, but we’re nearly finished. There’s not a lot of shoots left.

“A lot of editing and special effects work is being done now but that can take time.

"During lockdown I got the kids helping to make fake blood and other practical special effects.”

Robbie’s family aren’t the only ones who have been helping, with a number of locals and businesses pitching in.

"I want to thank everyone who’s got involved and helped us by giving up their time.

“The longer the film’s went on, the bigger the circle of people involved is, and it’s helped us really grow the production and make contacts which has allowed us access to different places, vehicles and uniforms.

“Lots of local businesses have pitched in, like Kangus, Andersons, Public Image and Revolution Barbers, so we want to thank them as well.”

Dick Dynamite 1944 aims to be completed by next summer.
