Dog charities and Fife Zoo benefit from Fife artist’s 26 drawings challenge

A Ceres artist, who challenged herself to draw 26 pieces of art in a month, has raised thousands of pounds for three causes.

Carol Stewart, who goes by her maiden name Bramley with her work, drew pictures of nature and animals over the course of one month.

Most of the drawings have now been sold off, raising, when added to the total from the fundraiser which was running throughout the challenge, more than £2000.

The funds will go to The Freedom of Spirit Trust for Border Collies, Barking Mad Dog Rescue and Fife Zoo.

“I saw the 2.6 challenge, but you can’t do 2.6 drawings,” said Carol.

“So I decided to go mad and do 26 in one month. Usually it takes a lot longer to do one. Normally it would take a few days. My eyes felt like they were about to pack up.

“I did find it challenging. Some were easy. Others I wasn’t so happy with. Others I started again.”

Carol completed her art challenge with just two hours to spare.

As well as raising funds for three causes, the challenge also got Carol back into art, having taken a break beforehand, and allowed her to experiment with new styles.

Speaking about why she supported the three causes, she explained: “I chose the Freedom of Spirit group because I have three border collies myself. They do a lot of work rescuing dogs and educating people about border collies. They are a good organisation.

“Barking Mad is one that rescues Romanian street dogs. My friend fostered two of them. I know the great work they do.

“With Fife Zoo, they haven’t been going long. They lost all their income. They had appealed for help. They’re a nice crowd and I thought they deserved the support.”

Carol has now sold 19 of the 26 paintings, with 100 per cent of the income going to the causes.
