A surge in demand due to the current coronavirus pandemic has left Kirkcaldy Foodbank running low on supplies.

As a result, the foodbank is appealing for donations to help replenish its stocks to enable its volunteers to continue to be able to help those in need in our communities.

The call for food donations follows an appeal for more volunteers and a temporary closure for a day as steps were taken to ensure the safety of the foodbank team and its users by ensuring social distancing could be maintained.

Joyce Leggate, chairman, said: “We have had a good response for volunteers after our recent appeal and the service is back to as normal as it can be under the circumstances.“We have also had super support from FairShare.“Even with all the support we are receiving we are running short on food and we are appealing for donations as our supplies are dwindling with the surge of demand due to the coronavirus.“Our volunteers are doing an amazing job, and are really going above and beyond.“A lot of them have had to take a step back from frontline service, but are working tirelessly behind the scenes as we are settling into the new normal.

“The people of Kirkcaldy have been so generous with physical and financial support, it is greatly appreciated.”
