Two families are preparing to step out for a charity close to their hearts this weekend.

Jason Smith, 37, and his sister Kelly Ramage, 41, will walk from their hometown of Kirkcaldy to Anstruther along the Fife Coastal Path on Sunday in aid of Nourish.

The siblings have both been members of Nourish Support Centre for a number of years and have experienced first hand the support the charity gives to families who have children with additional support needs.

After receiving the support, Jason and Kelly, along with their partners Annmaire and Rab, now volunteer with the charity.

This fundraising idea, for which they have been training for in recent weeks, is just another way they are showing their appreciation.

They will be joined on the walk by Jason’s son Owen and Kelly’s daughter Chloe, who are both 15.

They have decided to take on the fundraising challenge, which will see them cover 23 miles, to give something back to the charity.

Jason explained: “We’d been getting help from Nourish for a few years now.

“I’ve got three boys and the help Nourish has given us is second to none.

“Me and my son Owen did a fundraising walk about three years ago and raised £500 for Nourish.

“We wanted to give something back to Nourish again for everything they have done to help us and others, so we thought we’d do another walk.

“This time my sister Kelly and her daughter Chloe are going to join us.

“I can’t praise Kelly enough for wanting to do this.

“She suffers from pain, which could be fibromyalgia, and she’s determined to do it.

“She wants to prove to herself that she can do it.

“I know before when we did it it was hard going so I give her credit for even wanting to do it.

“Last time we left Kirkcaldy at around 8.30am and got to Anstruther at 4.30pm.

“It was easy enough for us getting to Elie, but the last five or ten miles was the hardest.

“We knew we just had to push through and get there.

“It’s a long day, but it’s worth it to raise the money for the charity.

“We’re looking forward to it.

“We have been doing shorter walks to try and help us build up to the 23 miles.

“We’ll all be giving each other encouragement and getting each other through.”
