The special pub quiz, launched by Ewan McGregor, is being held to raise vital cash and awareness for the charity which provides support

Names and faces from the extended ‘geeky’ multiverse will unite for a special one-off pub quiz tonight (Monday) in aid of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

And among them is a Hollywood actor from Fife.

Dougray Scott is one of the latest names to be revealed as taking part in the ‘Big Geeky Quiz’, which was launched by long-time CHAS ambassador Ewan McGregor as an extension of the charity’s Geeky T-Shirt Day.

The online event, which starts at 8pm, will feature questions and contributions from McGregor himself, alongside Hollywood legend Eugene Levy, science fiction stalwart Jonathan Frakes and the Mission Impossible star from Glenrothes.

There will also be Starfleet Commanders, Disney Princesses, Westeros Lords, White Walkers, Power Rangers and a few big surprises from the world of sci-fi and fantasy.

And at the heart of the chaos will be host and CBeebies star James Mackenzie, who has worked extensively on fundraisers with CHAS over the last few years.

Like many other charities left reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic, CHAS has had to dramatically transform the way in which it provides its increasingly important services. They have set up Scotland’s first ever virtual hospice to support children and families who are having to completely self-isolate.

As part of the ‘Share Your Joy’ campaign, today (Monday, May the Fourth), CHAS are encouraging the public to show allegiance to their favourite science-fiction, fantasy, cartoon or musical hero and by virtue the charity itself, by digging out their favourite ‘geeky t-shirt’ to wear.

Current Doctor Who Jodie Whittaker recently joined forces with Ewan McGregor and Brian Cox to highlight the current situation faced by the charity and drum up support for the awareness day and fundraiser.

It has since captured the imagination of genre fans, CHAS supporters, politicians, entertainers and the public at large.

Laura Campbell, community fundraising development manager at CHAS, said: “We continue to be blown away by how far this appeal can travel and the way that so many different communities have rallied round to support it.

“I suppose the message is universal – friends, family and community are crucial to us all right now and we need CHAS children and families to know that this is a day when we all walk with them.

“If people feel they’re in a place to donate, to help sustain the clinical and social services CHAS Hospice and At Home teams continue to provide in the face of this current reality, we would be immensely grateful for the support.

“We want to see as many fans as possible show up for our ‘Big Geeky Quiz’ on Facebook Live tonight. We still have a few big surprises up our sleeve!”

The funds and awareness raised by the online event will help CHAS on its mission to reach every single baby, child and young person who needs them, despite the current situation.

In order to help support the ongoing physical and new virtual hospice services provided to CHAS families, who are dealing with the most difficult of circumstances at the most impossible of times, participants are encouraged to simply wear their Geekiest T-Shirt, or CHAS t-shirt if they have one, share their efforts using #MayThe4thBeWithCHAS and donate just £3 by texting ‘Geeky 3’ to 70450, if they’re feeling charitable.
