And its standout stores in Scotland include Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes which have collectively donated the equivalent of 14,160 meals.

Food such as non-chilled fruit, vegetables and eggs, dented tins and bread products which can no longer to be sold in store, but are still edible, are donated. The products are then collected by charities and distributed, helping vulnerable people and saving food waste. Products with a use by date are not donated.

Brian Boyle, senior director, said: “We’re really proud of our donation programme and how it is helping those who need it most.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on charities and local communities, and we will do all we can to provide more meals and help eradicate poverty and food waste.”
