Fife care home exhibits resident's artwork
A 90-year-old resident at a Kirkcaldy care home has celebrated her love of art with her very own exhibition.
Betty Duncan, a resident at Gowrie House Care Home, has long enjoyed colouring and creating artwork, but following the passing of her husband, George, her creativity has taken on an even greater significance, providing comfort, enjoyment and a positive focus.

Often continuing long after the day’s activities have finished, Betty can regularly be found in the evening colouring and working on her latest creations.
Known for sharing her colourful pieces with staff, fellow residents and visitors, Betty loves using her creativity to brighten the days of those around her.
Seeing how much art means to her, the Activity Team at Gowrie House decided Betty’s work deserved to be celebrated and organised a special exhibition in her honour.
Activity Coordinator Julie Martin-Davy, who has a background in art, helped her bring together a collection of pieces created over the past year.
The artwork was carefully selected and displayed throughout the home, creating Betty’s very own gallery for friends, family, residents and staff to enjoy.
Some of the designs were even transformed into fridge magnets, giving guests a special keepsake from the exhibition.
The team also welcomed local MSP David Torrance, who officially opened the exhibition and joined Betty and her guests in celebrating her creativity and achievements.
Amy-Louise Rogers, Activity Team Leader at Gowrie House Care Home, said: “It’s been amazing to see this all put together for Betty.
“I am so proud of the team and of Betty for everything that has gone into making the exhibition so special.
“Her artwork brings so much colour and happiness to the home, and seeing everyone come together to celebrate something that means so much to her was wonderful.”
For Betty, the afternoon was about much more than displaying her artwork. It was an opportunity to celebrate a hobby that has provided comfort and purpose during a difficult period in her life, while recognising the joy her creativity continues to bring to others.
