The charity supports lone parents and families in need throughout Fife and aims to to provide accessible, approachable and non-judgemental support, advice and information by providing a variety of services in their local communities.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic the service has been unable to pursue its usual fundraising efforts and has called on Fifers and businesses to support its yearly campaign.

Linsey Proctor, communications officer, said: “This year we won’t be able to fundraise by rattling cans, shaking hands, singing carols or hosting Christmas parties. However, we still need help from the public and businesses.

“We support families and lone parents and a donation to Fife Gingerbread will make a huge difference to their lives.

“It has been an extraordinary year for all of us. We want to make sure that the families receiving support have a warm home and food on the table during the holidays.”

Linsey added that lockdown had been particularly hard for some of the families that Fife Gingerbread supports as a lot of services closed their doors.

“One parent has described the challenge of lockdown, and homeschooling as overwhelming as her children were different ages and stages, and one child has a learning disability and is worried for her family’s future.

"Another family who moved into their own property just before lockdown have struggled to make ends meet due to the pandemic. They went months without items many of us take for granted like a hoover – they were unable to get the help needed.

“We want their children and young people to have a magical Christmas with a present to tear open as soon as they wake up.”

She added: “We are calling for Fifers and Fife Businesses to help us this year. Every donation received through our Heat and Eat Campaign will directly benefit families in Fife who are in need – providing support such as funds to top up electric meters, food, essential items and small gifts.”
