Programme co-ordinator David Paton said: “We were absolutely delighted to hear we had been shortlisted.

“The joint effort which had results beyond all our expectations, has to be acknowledged, this process certainly does that. Staff, volunteers, participants and local people, all played a part in this effort; we feel proud.”

Meanwhile, Brian Robertson from FEAT – which runs Silverburn Park – is shortlisted in the ‘Terrific Trustee’ category.

He said: “I am thrilled to be shortlisted for my work for FEAT and Silverburn Park as I feel that now more than ever it is vital that we raise the profile of this worthwhile project. I thought it was a great shame that Silverburn had been allowed to go to rack and ruin, particularly the flax mill which is such a key part of the Fife’s heritage.

“I think to rebuild it as a place for people’s wellbeing is an important objective in a time when everybody’s mental health is susceptible and lack of employment a reality for all.”

This year’s shortlist includes 45 individuals and organisations from charities and voluntary groups across the country. While a judging panel will determine the winners under eight distinct categories, members of the public can have their say by voting for their favourite overall entry in the People’s Choice Award – by visiting scvo.org.uk/vote - before 5pm on September 4.

The full list of finalists can be found on the SCVO website.
