The Gift of Christmas Appeal Fife which is now in its fifth year, aims to ensure that every child has a present to open on Christmas Day, and it is now looking for donations to be dropped off on or before Saturday, December 5 to avoid any local youngsters being disappointed.

Not only has the group had more organisations and teams applying for gifts this year, but members are concerned about the possibility that Fife could enter Level 4 prior to December 5, which would mean that a lot of its drop off points would have to close.

Fifers are being urged to drop off donations for the appeal before December 5. Kate Hope, one of the parents who organises the annual event, said: “We have had 45 organisations / teams applying to us for gifts this year.”We usually have just over 30-35, so this is a significant increase, especially when we are expecting to receive less donations.

"We suspect the increase is the result of the financial difficulties which families are experiencing due to Covid 19, the more limited resources available to these organisations and the difficulties which organisations are facing when considering travelling outwith Fife to collect donations from other sources.

“We are also extremely concerned about the possibility of Fife entering Level 4 prior to December 5.

"That would mean a lot of our drop off points would have to close altogether - so we would like to encourage people to hand their gifts in as soona s possible.”

The organisers are looking for gifts across all age groups.

All presents should be unwrapped. Labelled gift bags are also accepted.Added Kate: “We also have an Amazon Wishlist which allows people to purchase a gift and have it sent directly to us. We also accept cash donations - anyone wishing to make a cash donation should email us at [email protected]"

Kate added that all donations are quarantined for 72 hours and this is done again before they are collected by the beneficiary organisations.

There are drop off points across Fife and a full list can be found on the Gift of Christmas Appeal website and its Facebook page.
