An East Neuk community group is bidding to take over its local hall.

Crail Community Partnership put in a community asset transfer bid last year, to take control of Crail Community Hall from Fife Council, and has now reached the second stage of the process.

The group is now asking for the support of residents.

The hall has a two hall and kitchen structure, with the main auditorium suitable for performance events seating up to 200 and for catered events up to 120.

The main auditorium is fitted with theatre lighting and has an installed audio system. The small hall is ideal for smaller social events, and in the past has been used for a seniors’ club, indoor bowls, table tennis and many other events.

The community hall is currently used for wedding receptions, festivals, elections, table tennis clubs and various other activities.

The move has been welcomed by local politicians.

Cllr Linda Holt said: “Crail Community Hall is already a much-used and much-loved building. By taking over its ownership, the community will not only safeguard its future but develop its full potential for residents and visitors alike. The amazingly dynamic Crail Community Partnership is on course to achieve great things in Crail.”

MSP Willie Rennie added: “I’m pleased to see this process opening up which gives the opportunity to residents to have their day and back the proposal. Having been involved in the charrette process, I’m glad to see this positive move forward.”

MP Wendy chamberlain said: “I encourage all Crail residents to submit their thoughts on this initiative. The hall is a fantastic asset for the community, and it would be great to see it owned and run by the Crail community.”

Representations must be made by May 11.

They should be emailed to [email protected] or sent to Zahida Ramzan, Community Investment Team, Fife Council, Rothesay House (2nd Floor South), Glenrothes. KY7 5PQ.
