Alice Brogan (6) built a fairy garden in West Wemyss at the start of the lockdown with the help of her mum, Claire, creating a space filled with small ornaments and fairy-themed items.

However, the garden was vandalised, with the fairy lights cut and ornaments smashed.

“She was very upset,” said Claire. “I said these things happen and that we’d do it again.”

But thanks to the help of the community, the garden is now “bigger and better than before”.

“Everyone in the village managed it build it again,” said Claire. “It’s amazing. A lot of kids are visiting it.

“She wanted to make folk smile and have a place for kids to put their wishes.

“I was taken aback by the generosity.”

The garden is now full of little fairy ornaments, miniature fairies, toys, fairy bells and 95 little wooden fairy doors which have been coloured in and then put back.

The garden now grows each day.

People have been leaving notes in the garden, making wishes and then tying them up.

“People went out of their way to help,” added Claire.

“People were coming to the door and leaving presents and money.

“It was disheartening and sad when it was vandalised, but it’s amazing that it has come back bigger and better than before.”
