Fife couple who met at Lochgelly Co-operative Society toast a special milestone.

Peter and Mary married in St Fothads Parish Church, Cardenden on June 25, 1955.

Peter and Mary were born in Lochgelly in 1935 and 1936 respectively and they both grew up just a few streets from one another in the west end of the town.

They worked for Lochgelly Cooperative Society and that is where their friend grew and love blossomed. Peter had to undertake national service but that was held up to let him captain the Under 18 Scottish Football team.

He went on to pursue a career at the Westfield opencast where he became the local TGWU representative. He was good at his job as he went on to spend the last 21 years of his working life as a full time official of the TGWU (Transport and General Workers Union, now UNITE).

While Mary set about building a lovely home for their growing family of three boys - Peter and twins, John and Paul.

The couple received a special card from from the Provost and Lord-Lieutenant to mark their 65th wedding anniversary, while Cardenden born Councillor Linda Erskine presented them with a beautiful bouquet of flowers on behalf of Fife Council.
