Two months ago, Methilhill couple Kyle and Jaimee lost their baby daughter, Fallon Arlene McAuley, who was born on May 8.

While the couple received support, they wanted to speak to other parents who had gone through the same experience, understood the emotions and challenges, and raise funds to purchase equipment for maternity units and offer direct support to bereaved parents.

So, in honour of Fallon, Kyle and Jaimee launched the Fallon Fund.

“We thought we could share our experiences, blogs, and put up other people’s stories if they got in touch,” said Kyle. “We didn’t realise how many people were going through the same thing. We’ve had people getting in touch to reach out. It’s been good to connect.

“From the time we were in hospital, we picked up on things that could have been done better. Contacts you are given are trained professionals, rather than families who have gone through that.

“This website let’s people know that there are other people out there in their situation.”

“A lot of people have reached out,” added Jaimee.

“Everyone’s stories are different, but the pain is the same.”

The couple have posted blogs about their experiences, hoping that it will help other parents. So far, both have written blogs; Jaimee discussed the importance of Friday, while Kyle wrote about his experience of Father’s Day.

There is also a chat system on the website that allows visitors to get in touch with the couple. The support is not just for parents, but also for aunts, uncles, grandparents and other relatives and friends who might be finding it tough.

Kyle and Jaimee said they are amazed how many people have got in touch to share their own stories and talk about their babies.

The website also has links to various charities and groups which provide support, and highlight books which can help people better understand the grieving process or might help start conversations about their emotions.

The couple now have plans to take part in the Great Scottish Run in October, only a few days before Baby Loss Awareness Week, and, at the time of writing, more than £3000 has been raised on their gofundme page.

The money raised from the event will be used to buy more equipment for maternity units to support parents through their loss, such as cuddle cots or moses baskets, which allow parents to spend time with their baby and say goodbye when they are ready.

The funds will also be used to provide direct support to those who need it.

“We want fundraising to be an ongoing thing, rather than just a one off,” said Jaimee.

“We want to help families and give back to the maternity units as well.

“We’re amazed at the amount of support we’ve received.

“We hope that with all this support, we can continue fundraising and keep donating to the areas that bereaved parent’s feel needs improvement.”
