Fife cyclist to ride around school catchment area 73 times for laptop fundraiser

A Cupar man is getting back on his bike this weekend to raise money for Castlehill Primary School.

John Leonard will be cycling a 2.1 mile route around the school catchment area 73 times – hitting a total of 150 miles.

He plans to donate the money to the school to allow it to purchase laptops for children who are currently without them.

The St Andrews-based optician said: “I am aware just how hard it has been taking on the role of teacher in our house, but to do so without technology, must be nearly impossible for families.

“The support from the teachers has been excellent.”

The father-of-two was furloughed at the end of March, and like most parents had to adapt to home learning.

His wife, a social worker, has remained in work and John said: “I just really wanted to show my support for all the key workers and do what I could during this time.”

John has previously supported Vision Aid Overseas, Beatson Cancer Charity, Cupar Foodbank and the Toy Drive.

He plans to start from his home in Cupar on Saturday at 5am and expects to finish his final loop by 4pm. To make a donation visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/john-leonard-lapsforlaptops.
