A student has set himself what he describes as “a rather tyring challenge” for later this month.

Fraser Melville, who lives near Auchtertool, plans to drag two 4x4 tyres for 26 kilometres on May 23 in an effort to raise cash for the NHS.

The 22-year-old, who is in his final year studying biology at university in Dundee, originally set himself a target of raising £500, however he has already bypassed that on his JustGiving page and is just short of £1000.

The former Balwearie High pupil said: “Our NHS is nothing short of incredible and I would like to honour them through a rather long and ‘tyring’ challenge.

“I thought there’s so much going on with the NHS and I’m finding it hard to believe they are struggling to protect themselves with PPE.

“I train with tyres in the countryside so thought I’d do something with it for a fundraiser.

“The recent 2.6 Challenge for charities inspired me and I thought I would do 26km.

“Hopefully it’s not too far outwith my capabilities, but it will be an interesting challenge that will push me mentally more than anything, especially after the 12 mile mark.

“But it’s for a good cause and I’m sure that will help keep me going and hopefully there will be a nice cold beer at the end”

Fraser’s training would usually cover a three or four mile circuit, not 26km, which is the equivalent of 16.2 miles.

He has mapped out a route around the Auchtertool area which is off the beaten track so there’s no unnecessary contact with anyone.

Fraser grateful to everyone who has already shown their support to his fundraising and he hopes he can continue to raise more money for the NHS.
