David Grubb’s latest album, Nano, was released as a digital album on Thursday, but plans to make physical copies were put on hold because he could no longer afford the costs of production.

David’s planned gigs, which included a tour of China at the start of the year and Scotland next month, were cancelled because of the outbreak. It means he doesn’t have the money to pay the minimum £1800 needed to produce the album.

He has now launched a preorder fundraiser, seeking donations to reach the sum, which will come to a close on Thursday. People who have made a donation will get a copy of the album if the fundraiser reaches its target and the album is released.

“It’s an instrumental album based in Scottish folk, but it draws on country, folk and rock,” said David, a former Buckhaven High School pupil.

“It was meant to be an EP – because it’s been a while since my first album, it was a way to reintroduce myself. Once I started arranging the tunes it grew beyond that.

“It’s 25 minutes long, but if the fundraiser is successful I’m planning a bonus track.”

David’s debut album, High Rise, was released in 2014 to critical acclaim. Since then he has worked with various bands and done gigs around the world, performing across Europe and North America.

“I was meant to be going out to China in March,” David said.

“That was cancelled in January. Having that bit of insight, I kept some of money back.”

Now living in Cardiff, David had hoped to do a tour of Scotland after releasing the album, but that too has been put on hold.
