Fife plans to mark International Women’s Day

Fife Trades Union Council is hosting an event to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Women from across the Kingdom are invited to attend the event in Kirkcaldy on Saturday, February 29.

International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the globe.

The event will be opened by Julie Ford, deputy provost of Fife, who will share what International Women’s Day means to her. Music will be provided by local fiddler player Sandie Forbes.

This year’s speakers will mainly focus on international issues.

A Spanish national, who lives in Fife, will discuss ‘machismo’; a field worker will talk about human trafficking in Africa; a member of the university union, UCU, will give a presentation about her time in Palestine and there will be a speaker from Al-Anon Family Groups.

The free event takes place at the KUSI Club in St Brycedale Avenue from 10am to 3pm.

Lunch is included, but please bring a raffle prize.
