Luckily there were no Hound Dogs to harass David Barbour, nor did he have any mail to Return to Sender as he set out to work dressed as the King.

And there were no Suspicious Minds among those waiting for their post – in fact David was greeted with cheers and thumbs up when people spotted him coming up the garden path.

Kirkcaldy man David, whose route on Monday went through Cardenden, said he was glad to cheer people up.

He said: “There were other posties doing it, in Leven and Kirkcaldy, all dressing up as different things.

“I heard one guy dressed as a woman.

“I saw there was a guy down in England who dressed up.

“I was covering Cardenden this week and I know a lot of folk there so I put a post up asking if I should dress up as Elvis.

“I got a lot of thumbs-up and loads of folk said I should go for it.”

“He’s as daft as his mum!

“Good on him for giving people something to smile about.

People were taking pictures and videos they were so happy at seeing him.

“I was quite proud of him for doing it.

“He stepped out of his comfort zone a wee bit, it’s not the sort of thing he’d usually do.

“He’d dress up for a party, but on a normal day it’s not something he’d normally do.”

However, David is already planning further costumed antics, so those along his route should keep an eye out.
