Fife Provost Jim Leishman orders probe into councillors' behaviour at meeting

Fife’s civic leader has instructed officers to look into claims of poor behaviour at a council meeting.

Provost Jim Leishman’s action came after Thursday’s full council meeting which was held online - the first one open to all elected members. since lockdown began in March.

The meeting was live-streamed for public viewing on August 6.

No details were given on why he asked for a report.

All 75 councillors covering the 22 wards across the region attended, with the exception of absentees, Cllrs Donald Lothian and Cllr Brian Thomson.

Provost Leishman commented: "As chair of the Committee I expect a high standard of behaviour from all elected members.

"Unfortunately it appears that these standards were not met during the meeting and I've asked officers to look into this matter."

Cllr Dave Dempsey leader of the opposition said: "The Provost is of course allowed to carry out this action and we will just have to wait and see what comes out of this."
