All staff, and some pupils, at a Kirkcaldy primary school have been told to self isolate in a bid to spike a growing number of Covid-19 positive tests.

Sinclairtown Primary will now remain closed until after the October break which means pupils won’t return the 26th of next month.

The action comes after two more positive COVID-19 tests were confirmed, taking the total to nine.

All positive cases continue to experience relatively mild symptoms and are isolating at home with other household members.

Several classes were told to stay home on Monday when the first COVID positive tests were confirmed, but the whole school closed on Wednesday as more emerged and revealed some staff to pupil transmission.

In its latest update, NHS Fife confirmed all staff have been told to self isolate

Pupils in P1A, P2, P4 and P5A, who had previously been identified as potential contacts are asked to continue to isolate at home as a precaution.

Pupils from P1B (Room 2), P5B (Room 10) and P6A (Room 11) now have to self-isolate up to and including October 6.

All other pupils do not need to isolate.

It was also confirmed that a decision has now been taken to close the school for the next two weeks. It will re-open following the October break.

An NHS spokesman said: “These measures are being put in place as an extra precaution to help us better manage this community cluster. “

He added: “While there is no evidence of widespread transmission of the virus between pupils within the school, there is now evidence of some staff-to-pupil transmission within some classes, and a further three classes have been asked to self-isolate today.

“Contact tracers from the Test and Protect Team are in the process of identifying and tracing the known contacts of all positive cases to provide public health support and advice. “

Anyone who develops any of the established symptoms of the virus, such as a fever; or a loss or change in taste or smell; or a new and continuous cough, should arrange testing by calling 0800 028 2816 or via the the UK Government Citizens’ Portal
