Fife town to host Christmas market next week

Leven town centre will host a festive artisan market this weekend, giving locals the chance to stock up on any late Christmas gifts.

The market will be held at the South Street car park, following the success of another market which was held there last month.

More than 2000 Fifers visited the market, while local traders noticed an increase in footfall throughout the day.

Brian Robertson-Fern from organisers Levenmouth Together said: “We have been treading a fine line between keeping people safe and bringing new developments to the area, and we are delighted that over 2000 people attended with 15 per cent coming from outside the local area.

“The move to South Street was the correct move for us and our plan is to build on this yet further. The Christmas Artisan Market will now be held again in the same place on Saturday, December 12, and will run from 10am-3pm, with stalls including; Selkirk Distillers, Cairn O’ Mhor fruit wines, Woodmill Game, Mia Mae luxury candles and many more.

“Unfortunately, there will be no ferris wheel this year, but we are sure there will still be a fun, festive, family atmosphere and that it gives visitors a reason to come into town for some fantastic produce.”

The first market of 2021 will be held on April 10 and will be repeated the second Saturday of every month thereafter.

Levenmouth Together was forced to cancel its Halloween drive-in movie event ‘Scarefest’ due to weather and level three restrictions. This will now be held in late March. The event will be showcasing classics including Grease, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Greatest Showman and The Lion King. Tickets will go on sale in early January.

Levenmouth Together will also be launching its new Levenmouth Community Lottery in 2021 with all surplus proceeds going back into the Levenmouth community.

This will include a commission for local businesses that agree to sell tickets, with all profits then going into a community chest which gives much-needed grant funding to local groups and community organisations. The approach has been trialled previously, and over £2700 was been distributed over a nine month period.
