The Co-operative (ad)Venture Project, run as a partnership between the Co-operative College and ENABLE Works, also encourages participants to tackle issues in their communities.

The latter is a distinct part of ENABLE Scotland, with over 65 years experience of supporting people with disabilities and campaigning to build a more equal society.

Liam Flinn, project coordinator said: "The group planned to create a series of videos that are virtual tours of long walks and places of interest, such as John Knox’s Pulpit, Dunfermline Abbey and the Forth Bridges and then share them with people in the community who have accessibility issues.

"They chose the theme of virtual walks as some of them have disabilities and it is a subject that is close to their hearts.

"I had to drastically change the way that I deliver the project to the youngsters as it’s impossible to meet as a group during the current pandemic.

"We were quite restricted to what we could actually do, as we couldn’t meet face-to-face it can be hard to build relationships with them with the project being completely online.”

The youngsters named the project ‘High Fife’ and took the lead in what they wanted to achieve with Liam encouraging them to use their initiative and to think outside of the box.

"The idea was completely down to the group themselves,” he said. “They first researched the locations before I went out and took the footage, I then guided them on how to edit it, add graphics and voice overs.

"We wanted to give the impression that people were actually taking the walks themselves.

"I’m extremely proud of what the group has achieved, I’ve nominated some of them for Young Scot awards for the role they played in the project.

“There are a lot of issues out there for young people, but organisations are now listening and starting to understand how best to engage with youngsters and to find out what they want and how best to help them.”
