Fifer who broke neck and back in crash completes relay across Fife for Maggie’s
Cameron Saile completed a walk from Maggie’s in Dundee to Maggie’s in Kirkcaldy, as a thank you to the cancer support centre which has helped his grandma through her treatment.
His grandma, Marian, was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, which has now spread to her bones and liver.

To thank the charity, Cameron came up with the idea of the walk.
However, having broken his neck and back in a crash last year, the walk would have been too much for him to do solo, so friends and family decided to step in and help him complete it as a relay.
He set off from Dundee at 5am, walking with a friend to Newport, where his step-dad and step-brother took over.

His step-dad did the walk to Kirkcaldy, where all of his friends and family, including his grandma, walked the final stretch to Maggie’s.
“The weather was terrible,” said Cameron, “but it was all for a good cause. It was worth it.”
The group carried a pot with them to collect donations during the walk. So far, the fundraiser has collected more than £1300.

Hide AdCameron said it was a “relief” and “emotional” when he finished the route.
“Grandma was emotional as well,” he added. “They are such an amazing charity. I wanted to support them.”
But the walk was not the only challenge for Cameron.
He promised donators he would have his legs waxed if he reached the £800 target.
“It was agony,” he said.
“It was worse than the walk. All my friends started chipping in to get the total over £800. I would not recommend it.”
Despite the horror of the leg wax, Cameron is planning on another fundraiser next year.
