Fifers are acting fast to secure their chance to visit local leisure centres and get active, according to Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.

The charitable trust says nearly 800 bookings have been made since it launched its online booking system this week as part of its Covid safety measures ahead of the doors re-opening at three of its facilities on Monday, September 14.

East Sands Leisure Centre in St Andrews, Levenmouth Swimming Pool and Sports Centre, Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre and Dalgety Bay Leisure Centre are scheduled to re-open on Monday, September 28.

The next phase will see Duloch Leisure Centre, Cupar Leisure Centre, Bowhill Swimming Pool and Waterstone Crook Leisure Centre open on Monday, October 12.

Customers will return to the Beacon Leisure Centre in Burntisland on Monday, October 26.

The trust has released details of its online booking system and programme timetables ahead of re-opening and it will soon launch a new app so customers can easily access facilities with the new Covid measures in place.

Scott Urquhart, sports and physical activity team manager, said: “Our staff and facilities are ready and we are very much looking forward to welcoming customers back to their local facilities.

"We’re sure that customers will be confident in the protocols we have in place which are in line with government, NHS Scotland and industry guidelines.

“We understand customers across Fife will be eager to get back to their local leisure centres and we would appeal for understanding as we step up preparations as quickly and as safely as we can.

"I’d also like to thank them for their support and goodwill during the closure of our facilities.”

The trust was forced to close its swimming pools and leisure facilities back in March due to the pandemic.
