The appeal comes from NHS Fife as it closes hospitals to routine visits in a bid to minimise the spread of the virus.

The traditional services and gatherings at war memorials have been postponed in light of the pandemic, with just a handful of nominated representatives laying wreaths to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Kirkcaldy’s service was the first to be formally cancelled by organisers, British Legion - the first time in living memory it will not take place.

NHS Fife has urged people to put safety first.

In a tweet, it said: “We're asking people to follow national guidance in relation to Remembrance Sunday and to adhere to the restrictions in place around outdoor events and public gatherings.

“Please mark the occasion by watching services on television or pausing for the Two Minute Silence at home.”
