Fife’s only World Cup fan zone announced at landmark venue

Plans for Fife’s only World Cup fan zone have been unveiled.

Fife Ice Arena in Kirkcaldy will host football fans for Scotland’s games on a giant screen this summer.

The early morning events will also feature food and drink plus entertainment - and could bring huge numbers to the landmark rink in the Gallatown.

Scotland begin their World Cup adventure with a game against Haiti in Boston on Sunday, June 14 which, for fans at home, has a 2:00am kick-off. Steve Clarke’s team then moves to Miami to play Morocco on the 19th and Brazil on the 24th with those games getting underway at 11:00pm.

Fan zones have already been unveiled in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and now Fife will join the World Cup party on a big scale.

The large scale fan zone in the Lang Toun will broadcast all three of Scotland’s group stage matches - their first in 30 years - “transforming the iconic ice arena into a celebration hub filled with energy, community spirit, and national pride.”

The initiative has been organised by the rink with Love Oor Lang Toun and Kirkcaldy business, Krafty Drinks. Promising food vendors, fun activities and entertainment, it said it would create “a community-led atmosphere designed to be welcoming for all.”

Ryan Strachan, development manager with LOLT, said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing a major fan zone experience to Fife.

“Scotland on the world stage is something the whole nation rallies behind, and we wanted to create a space where everyone - friends, lifelong fans, and first time supporters - can come together to enjoy it. Fife Ice Arena is the perfect venue for this, and we can’t wait to see it full of colour and excitement.”

He added: “With demand growing for safe, inclusive, and community focused places to experience Scotland’s long awaited World Cup return, this will be the only event of its kind in Fife, bringing supporters from across the Kingdom together under one roof.

“It is also great for the World Cup zone to be part of Lang Toun Fest and showcasing Kirkcaldy and Fife Ice Arena as offering something different.”

The fan zone organises also plan to work with local bars and hospitality venues to create pre-match venues, as well as bus companies and taxi firms across Fife to organise late night/early morning travel to and from the rink. For more details, contact [email protected]

Ticket prices and details on the entertainment will be announced shortly.

News of the fan zone comes just weeks after Fife Council joined many other local authorities across Scotland in deciding against giving staff a Bank Holiday on the Monday.

The idea was announced by John Swinney, First Minister, and signed off by King Charles, but the costs involved and the impact it would have on schools and other services has led to councils across Scotland saying no. Businesses across Fife are also not obliged to grant it, and NHSFife has yet to decide how it will handle the request.
