Kirkcaldy Foodbank is appealing for a new home in Burntisland as its time in the High Street has come to an end.

The charity has been based at the Solid Rock cafe for the past three years.

It is a vital lifeline for individuals and families who have fallen on hard times and rely on the service to put food on the table.

The owners of the current premises have said there is no reason why it should close before finding new accommodation.

Joyce Leggate, chairman of the Kirkcaldy Foodbank said: “We are very disappointed that the landlord of our premises in Burntisland has asked us to leave, particularly as it is without warning.

“We have been based at Solid Rock for a number of years, and have been very grateful for the support of Burntisland Parish Church in allowing us to provide our service from their cafe.

“There is considerable need in Burntisland, especially during the coronavirus crisis, and we are now calling on the local community to step up and help us meet that need. If anyone knows of any building that we can use, please get in contact as quickly as possible.”

Clark Christie, whose parents own Solid Rock said: “In asking our tenants that the foodbank operation be relocated to a more suitable venue such as the parish church halls, I must admit that we didn’t consider the bureaucracy charities have to put up with in conducting risk assessments and so on for new locations.

“I have contacted Kirkcaldy Foodbank directly to emphasise that any interruption in service is unnecessary.

“We are happy to work to a new date proposed by the church whilst a new venue is found.

“We see no reason why the service would close whilst making such preparations. I trust that this will allow it to continue its great work.”
