Former Kirkcaldy teacher in underage sex plot is struck off

A Kirkcaldy teacher has been struck off after being accused of an online plot to meet an underage girl for sex.

Iain Parkinson was removed from the register for two years by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), and banned from trying to return to the profession for two years.

The former RE and classic teacher at Kirkcaldy High School appeared before the professional body after previously facing criminal charges which were dropped.

He was on a swingers website where he said he arranged to meet a woman at a Travelodge in Falkirk.

But his conversations in 2016 were with an undercover police officer and he subsequently face charges.

They were dropped when his lawyers successfully argued he was the victim of entrapment.

His case was referred to the profession’s regulatory body and a five-day hearing concluded yesterday.

Parkinson resigned his post at the school at the time the case came to light.

The panel ruled he was unfit to teach.
