The Cottage Family Centre in Kirkcaldy will get the cash from Persimmon Homes Building Futures scheme.

It forms part of a £1million given away across Britain to regional charities, groups, sports clubs and schools to improve local facilities and the delivery of vital community projects for people aged under 18.

The money will fund a project to create a new garden where children and families can learn the skills they need to grow fruit and vegetables. The garden is part of a larger project to transform a 100m piece of wasteland into an outdoor activity area for families.

James MacKay, technical director for Persimmon Homes North Scotland, said: “We are proud to support the Cottage Family Centre which offers a valuable opportunity for young people to develop new skills and boost confidence.”

The long-established Kirkcaldy centre supported more than 3,000 young people in the last year.

The deadline for securing funding from Persimmon is May 31. In addition to hundreds of local donations of £1000, 96 initiatives will go on to compete for top prizes of £100,000 through a national online public vote. The overall winners will be named in October.
