Funding boost for work to restore historic monuments at Fife graveyard
A bid to restore historic monuments in a Fife graveyard have been given a funding boost.
Councillors on North East Fife area committee have approved £20,000 to support the work being done at Crail Kirkyard. The money will come from the town’s Common Good Fund.
It will support essential repair and conservation work to monuments XVI and XIX within the kirkyard, which hold significant historical and cultural value, telling the story of Crail and the people who lived there.
The committee saw the investment is a positive step towards preserving the character of the kirkyard, while making sure it remains a safe and respectful space for residents and visitors alike.

The project will help safeguard fragile stonework, prevent further deterioration, and ensure that the history captured in these monuments is not lost over time.
Councillor Jonny Tepp, area convenor said:“Crail Kirkyard is a special place for the community, with generations of local history recorded in its monuments. I’m really pleased that members have supported this funding. It will help us protect these important memorials and keep the kirkyard looking its best for everyone who visits.”
Work is expected to focus on repairing damaged structures and conserving key monuments, helping to ensure they can be appreciated for many years to come.
