Fundraiser set to give vandalised Fife park ‘virtual hug’

A fundraiser has been set up to give the charity behind a Fife park a ‘virtual hug’ which has been vandalised in recent weeks.

Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT) general manager Duncan Mitchell told the Mail that Silverburn Park had been used for fly-tipping and motorbike riding, while thieves had taken logs, plants and wood chips – and that these incidents had been ‘disheartening’ for staff who have worked hard to help rejuvenate the park.

Now a fundraising page has been started with the aim of collecting £500 in donations for the benefit of the park.

Jules Herd, who started the page, wrote: “Like many, Silverburn Park holds great memories for me and those I love. It was there for us as children and for our own children.

“It has been there to walk the dog, go on walks with a partner or sometimes just to sit alone and breathe.

“Over the past few weeks I know personally it has been a godsend.

“It has been an anchor in truly unknown waters for many fellow locals. I think, to be honest, sometimes we take local things we love for granted, just expect them to be there. Having an insight in to the park I know how much love goes in to it.

“Day in day out it is cared for and loved by a magnificent team.

“Recently it has had a few knocks so I would love for us to give it a little hug and say, we got you! Everything that is done at the park is achieved through donations and funding. Please if you can donate a hug, be it a pound or a fiver let’s show the team we care.”

The page has, at the time of writing, already raised £287.
