The charity will use the funding to provide domestic appliances and household essentials to families, individuals and key workers in crisis situations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gregor, a key worker who works with vulnerable adults, turned to Castle Furniture for help after his washing machine broke down and he could not afford to replace it.

He said: “At the moment my wife is unable to work due to childcare issues with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. All the money that I earn is currently going towards all of our household bills and have none to spare.

“Our washing machine unexpectedly broke, and we did not have the funds available to purchase a new one. As a key worker, I work with vulnerable adults and I need to wash my clothes after every shift to avoid the risk of infection.

“If I am unable to wash my clothes I am unable to return due to the risk of infection. I already knew about Castle from buying there in the past so I hoped they would be able to help.

“I phoned the project and was told to fill in a form online, and the next day I received a call from Castle saying that they would give me a washing machine. Because I’m a key worker who needs uniforms washed everyday they also said that they would deliver and fit it the very same day.

“Before I phoned, I was really worried about my bills, rent and food shopping. This help has been such a relief and I cannot thank them all enough.”

Not only is the project helping people with household items, the project’s staff and volunteers have also been redeployed to support seniors in Fife through its Elders Crisis Contact Centre, providing a friendly voice to talk to or to arrange doorstep deliveries of essentials items.
