Glenrothes man’s videos celebrating Fife hills goes viral

A Glenrothes man’s social media videos promoting Fife’s hills have reached more than 200,000 people across the country.

Ross Cunningham (34) made a two-minute video at the end of November promoting the Kingdom’s five best summits – comprising Benarty Hill, Largo Law, Norman’s Law and the Lomond Hills - which received over 900 shares on Facebook and reached 162,000 people.

A second video made by Ross was in collaboration with Gaelic in Fife. The video explains the meaning behind the names of Fife’s highest hills and their connection to the Gaelic language, and the Tweet containing the video reached over 60,000.

Commenting on the success of the videos, Ross said: “I’m delighted there has been so much interest in these two videos promoting the fantastic hillwalks we have here in Fife.

“While there are higher peaks in other parts of Scotland, the hills here in the Kingdom yield no inferiority to them and in many cases have better views and are more enjoyable days out than some of the Munros. Fife’s also a great introduction to hillwalking for anyone looking to take up hiking - although care is still needed particularly at this time of year.

“It’s been a difficult year for many due to the pandemic but a great way to feel a little better mentally and clear your head is to explore our beautiful outdoors and we have plenty of that to offer here right across the Kingdom.”
