Heroes helping residents in Fife village

Spider-Man is among the cast of characters who have been created in scarecrow form, as a north east Fife village tries to keep spirits high during the lockdown.

Dozens of scarecrows are now spread around the village of Strathmiglo, with residents being creative and making their own to join in on the fun, and exploring the village to find the others.

It is just the latest project locals have come up with to help keep people smiling.

In response to the lockdown, four women in the village started a response group aimed at keeping people safe and supplied.

It has grown since then, and now almost 60 people are part of the group, offering to volunteer and do what they can to help others.

Heather Neilson, one of the organisers, said: “We now have 58 helpers on the end of phone or social media ready to help out with shopping, collecting prescriptions and any advice or questions regarding isolation.”

And while the group offers serious information to help people, it also has some fun.

“We have several WhatsApp group relating to Covid, including our Strathmiglo Fun Chat page where all can have online blether, banter and post useful information such as shop deliveries.”

As well as scarecrows, an online Easter competition was set up.

Children in Strathmiglo got the chance to be creative and send in their own Easter creations.

Similar groups have sprung up around Fife in response to the lockdown.
