‘Hidden gem’ house to be built in Fife town centre after plans approved

A new house is to be built in St Andrews town centre – but it will be concealed from view.

The house will be built in a courtyard on Church Street, which is not associated with any of the surrounding properties and has remained “largely neglected”.

The property will be one-storey, with 1.5 storey elements, with two bedrooms.

The developers said the aim of the project is to “preserve the character of the courtyard” and “introduce a new home, of exemplary design to create a hidden gem, in central St Andrews”.

Ian Muir, director at architects Muir Walker Pride, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary in the town, said: “We are delighted to have achieved planning consent for this tight site in the middle of St Andrews Conservation Area.

“As is often the case with town centre development, the main challenges were to design a new house that made best use of the available light whilst having a minimal impact upon the neighbouring buildings.

“The design will provide an attractive and comfortable new residence conveniently placed for all facilities in the centre of St Andrews.”
