A human bone found near a Fife golf club is believed to be historical.

Police were informed about the discovery of the bone on Sunday evening, near the Castle Golf Club in St Andrews.

They are now working to determine the age of the bone, and it is understood it could be historical.

A police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers are working with relevant partners to establish the full circumstances of the discovery and to determine the exact age of the bone."
